All product ideas come from Andy's mastermind, who has been an enthusiastic researcher and inventor since childhood, magically attracted by everything that creeps and crawls in the water. A children's room full of aquariums and animals, winning "Jugend forscht", studying marine biotechnology and bioprocess technology and working at the AWI and AquaSander led him to aquaculture. There, in Völklingen, he helped to establish Europe's largest recirculation-based saltwater fish farm in order to save the oceans from overfishing.
However, fish feed from oceanic catches was used as food - a situation that Andy could no longer justify. This was the impetus for founding algova - in the pantry kitchen of the two-bedroom flat at home. Hilke was involved right from the start - after all, it was her kitchen. :)
At some point, the kitchen and living room became too small and they moved into an old dog parlour a few houses down the street. Eventually, algova moved to its current location: an old bakery on the "flat land" on the edge of the Lüneburg Heath.
